Writing A Strong Sociology Research Paper In The APA Format

Unlike other research papers, Sociology research papers are also written in APA format. If you are looking for its writing code of conduct, check out the rules of formatting-

  • Title page: You need to include separate page for this. The title page will display full title of the manuscript, the list of all authors and the name of the institutions in vertical order (if there is more than one). The title page would include the list of all footnotes and references. The title of the footnote will also be addressing the list of authors, grants/funding, the additional credits and acknowledgements.
  • Abstract: The abstract should be written from a fresh page. It should immediately follow the title page. The title of the document will be the primary heading. This section need not be more than 150-200 words in length.
  • Keywords: As you write the abstract page, you need to include a list of 3-5 keywords so that primary theme of the manuscript can be easily identified.
  • Text formatting: The text should be written in 12 points font size with double spacing. It would be including the footnotes too. If other instructions are provided by the instructor, please follow them diligently.
  • Margins: All the four sides should have a margin of at least 1 ¼ inches. Again follow your instructor’s guidance.
  • First page: The title of the page would be the first page.
  • Subheadings: These help in organizing the body of the manuscripts. Usually, three different levels of headings are used.
  • Footnotes and endnotes: These are used to cite limited available materials. Footnotes are written to expand the text or to put in more information in the table. Endnotes also serve the same purpose but are used more often than footnotes. Name both footnotes and endnotes consecutively in Arabic numerals. Footnotes are used at the bottom of the page while endnotes are used at the end of the research paper.
  • Page Numbering: Number all the pages consecutively. Page number 1 should begin with the title page. It should also include the list of all references used in the research paper.
  • Tables and Figures: If there are more than one table, number them consecutively. Same goes with the figures section too. Number the figures one after the other. All the tables and figures should be presented on a fresh page after manuscript ends. These should have descriptive titles. It would assist the reader to understand the text in an easy manner. Complete headings should be provided in all the columns and rows in case of tables. Avoid using the abbreviations. Spell the word -”percent” in heading.
